Janeczko, Paul B., Requiem: Poems of the Terezin Ghetto. Pgs. 102. Candlewick
Press, 2011. $7.99. Language: G, Mature Content: PG-13, Violence: PG-13
Ever wondered what life would’ve been like living in a
Nazi-ran Ghetto of World War II? In this book, follow the lives of those living
in a Czech concentration camp. Told in poems, accented by historical
illustrations, read about hope, courage, and what it took to survive as an
inmate under Nazi Rule.
A tragic, intimate, profoundly moving look at Terezin. The
poems are well-written, thought-provoking, and intense. The historical
illustrations are amazingly detailed and complement the poems well. Although it
would’ve been nice to have some sources in the back for further information,
readers interested in Word War II or the Holocaust will enjoy reading this
book. MS, HS. ADVISABLE. Reviewer: Jessica Moody, Library Media Specialist,
Olympus Jr. High.
