Mader, Roger C. Tiptop Cat, PICTURE
BOOK. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company. 2014. $17.99.
“Of all the gifts she got that day, the best one was the
cat.” The new cat quickly becomes acquainted with his urban home. He loves the
balcony and the rooftops that lead him to his favorite spot “on top of the
world.” One day a pigeon lands on his balcony, and the cat quickly learns that
cats definitely cannot fly. After a long fall from the high balcony, the cat no
longer visits the balcony or the rooftops and certainly not “the top of the
world.” And then, a crow lands on his balcony. The crow goes up and so does the
cat until again he’s “on top of the world.”
Oh, Tiptop Cat! Where have you been all our lives?! This is
hands down one of our favorite books. The illustrations are beautiful and
simple. The story has just the right pacing that make it fun to read out loud
to little ones. I can’t count how many times we’ve read this book, and it never
gets old. This is a must have! I’m going to end this review now, so you can go
pick up a copy. Go! Now!
