Gourley, Robbin Talkin’ Guitar: A Story of Doc Watson, PICTUREBOOK, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2015. $16.99. Content: G.
Young, blind, Arthel Watson heard music in everything: the sounds of nature, the call of the animals, and the banging and strumming he did in the barn. Eventually he learned to play the guitar and the banjo and became a famous musician “Doc Watson”.
The watercolor illustrations give this book a simple country feel. The story began with some great sound words, but quickly turned into just another biography. The life-sketch at the end pulls the story together.
