Chapman, Jared, Vegetables in Underwear, PICTURE
BOOK. Abrams Appleseed. 2015.$14.95
Apparently, vegetables wear underwear. In fact, there are
big underwear, little underwear, dirty underwear, clean underwear, serious
underwear, and funny underwear. Broccoli wears underwear and so do all his
friends. Onion, celery, eggplant, corn, potato…everyone! But the one thing that
Broccoli wants you to remember about underwear, you must remember to put your
clothes on top.
This is one of the books that you say, “Of course! Vegetable
in underwear! Where has this book been all my life?” The pictures in this book
are simply hilarious. If you can’t enjoy a book full of vegetables running
around in a variety of underwear, there’s something wrong. My toddler gets such
a kick out of this book. Although she’s still in diapers, she loves when the
broccoli snootily reminds the babies that they wear diapers NOT underwear. Baby
Corn, Baby Beet, and Baby Carrot cry at the injustice as broccoli walks away
saying, “Sorry, babies,” and she just cracks up! This is going to be a great
book as we transition to potty training and underwear, and it has taken
vegetable eating to a whole new, and somewhat odd, level.
