Space Mountain by Bryan Q. Miller-OPTIONAL

Miller, Bryan Q. ill. By Kelley Jones. Space Mountain. Pgs. 174. Disney Comics, 2014. GRAPHIC NOVEL. Language: G, Mature Content: PG, Violence: PG.

It’s 2125 and two students from the Magellan Space Academy, Stella Macri and Thomas Ford have been selected to join a team of space explorers on a special time-travel mission one day into the future. On their way, however, a malfunction on the ship causes a probe to be released unexpectedly. When the group of explorers gets to “the future,” they discover everything has changed and they’re considered criminals for changing history detrimentally. When Captain Cole and the other explorers are banished to the past for their “crimes,” it is up to Stella and Thomas to save the day. Will they succeed?

The illustrations are colorful and detailed, but the story is a little implausible and the characters are one-dimensional. Nevertheless, fans of Disney, graphic novels, and the ride Space Mountain will most likely enjoy reading this book. EL. OPTIONAL. Reviewer: Kira M, Youth Services Librarian, WHI Public Library.
