Houran, Lori Haskins Diary of a Worm: Nat the Gnat Illustrated by John Nez Harper, 2014.
$16.99 EARLY READER Content: G.
Worm’s class got a class pet—a gnat.
The gnat’s name is Nat (which is hard to explain the difference when
reading to a small child). Worm is in
charge of watching the class pet, but when he goes to put a leaf in his cage,
he loses the gnat. Worm catches a
different gnat and adds it to the cage. He
tells his teacher that he lost the class pet, but it was really hiding under
the leaf.
This early reader has 2-4
sentences per page and my kindergartener could read it without getting
frustrated. The illustrations are cute
and the storyline was easy to follow. My
reader finished it and said he liked it.
Other than the confusion between the gnat and its name Nat it was a fun
read.
