Rotten Ralph’s Rotten Family by Jack Gantos and Nicole Rubel –OPTIONAL

Gantos, Jack and Rubel, Nicole Rotten Ralph’s Rotten Family 48 pgs. Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2014. $17.99  Content: Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: G Violence: G. EARLY READER
Sarah wants to go to a sleepover, but can’t find anyone willing to babysit her pet cat Ralph. He has scared off all the other sitters with his Rotten behavior. Sarah is very upset so Ralph decides to figure out why everyone thinks he is so Rotten. He runs away back to the cat home he grew up in, with his cat family. He discovers that most of his family is completely Rotten, so that is all he has ever known, and he doesn’t like it. When he goes home he decides to make some really changes.
I found myself really liking this story, even though Ralph never really feels sorry for his Rotten behavior, at least he changes. The artwork is very dated and unappealing. I have quite a few of these books in my library and they are never checked out. If this series is popular at your library, this one would make a nice addition.
