Laurie, Victoria When (working title: Death Date), 323p. Hyperion, 2015. $17.99. Language: PG-13 (42 swears, 0 “f”); Mature Content: G; Violence: PG (deaths, but never graphic);
Maddie can see your death date. It doesn’t matter who you are, she will see your date on your forehead even if she just glances at you. She didn’t know what the numbers meant, however, until the day her firefighter father died - exactly on the date she had drawn on an kindergarten scrawl. She and her mother have managed to keep her “talent” fairly secret, but her mother uses her to make money during private readings and the people are not always happy with the reading. Now Maddie is sixteen and young people from her school are disappearing. Somehow Maddie is connected to the disappearances, but she had better figure it out fast, or she will join the list of victims.
This book is a little Bone Finder and a little Numbers and I loved it. It is creepy without being graphic - exciting, but not grotesque. I loved it for so many reasons. I just decided I am going to read it again.
