A cat is reading the story of Little Red Riding Hood to his friend, the
dog. The cat is reading the text of the
story, but the dog keeps interrupting sometimes with what he considers more
exciting elements to the story and sometimes comments on what he would do differently
if he was one of the characters. For
example, the dog thinks that if Red Riding Hood has a red cape, then she must
be a superhero. They go back in forth
throughout the telling of the story.
This is a cute idea and the dog’s “improvements” on Little Red Riding
Hood are funny and entertaining. I have
two concerns: first, some kids might not even know the original story of Red
Riding Hood making this book very confusing.
Second, the illustrations are boring-black and white and not as fun as
the story.

I loved this book and haven't laughed so hard in a long time. I bought myself a copy. I think it would be fun to share with older students for a unit on re-tellings. I would not however, put this book in the children picture book section, it requires some background to understand the hilarity and insights.
