Esther just wants her mother to love her like she loves her brother and sister. Esther just wants her mom to hug her like her best friend Shirley’s mom hugs her. Esther’s mom is full of superstitions and Esther has learned lots of ways to avoid bad luck. Even all precautions and understanding the signs of the moon, does not make Esther’s family immune to the effects of the Great Depression. When the family moves from their apartment in Chicago to a primitive farm in Wisconsin, Esther finds lots of ways to show her mom how helpful she can be and how much she is worthy of mom’s love.
I loved the story of Esther and connected with her and felt for her as she just wanted her mom to love her. This was an endearing and sweet book. I definitely recommend this book.
