Himmelman, John Duck to the Rescue. PICTURE BOOK. Henry Holt & Co., 2014. $16.99. Content: G.
Ernie the duck is eager to help out on the Greenstalk farm, but his efforts always end in disaster -- that is, until a little lamb sets him up for a successful rescue.
Duck to the Rescue is a hilarious tale, and both Duck's escapades and the accompanying illustrations will likely elicit giggles from children. The story is a lot of fun to read aloud, and may even garner some good audience participation every time the text declares, "Duck to the rescue!" While the ending is a little abrupt and unclear, the rest of the book is delightful enough to mostly overcome this hiccup. Can be read as a stand-alone, or as part of the Greenstalk Farm series. (NOTE: Not to be confused with a 2012 book with the same title, written by Jez Alborough.)
