Clanton, Ben The Table Sets Itself. PICTURE BOOK.
Bloomsbury, 2014. $17. Content: G.
All of the pieces of Izzy’s place setting are sick and tired of being in
the same places. But no matter with they
try, someone is not satisfied – including Mom and Dad. Dish and Spoon are so unhappy that they even
run away. Izzy and her friends hope that
some day they will decide to come home.
Clanton’s book is very silly, so you are going to have to decide if you
can live with the silliness. It has lots
of components that are very teachable – place settings, utensils in different
countries, and even the ”Hey Diddle, Diddle” nursery rhyme (knowing it makes
the book and its illustrations even more clever). It is a bit all over the place though, as the
title is not really indicative of the story line.
