Zukerberg, Randi Dot. PICTURE BOOK. Illustrated by
Joe Berger. Harper Collins Publishers,
2013. $17.99. Like most children today,
Dot is well versed in electronic devices.
She knows all about how to tap on a keyboard, touch and swipe a phone or
computer screen, and search on the internet.
Dot is so obsessed with her electronic devices; she pays little attention
to much else. Dot becomes overwhelmed with
all of the talking, swiping and sharing one day and is worn out and exhausted. Dot’s
mother senses her need to “reboot, recharge and restart” and sends her outside
for some fresh air. The story then takes
on a whole new tone. Dot reconnects with friends and childhood imaginations
that seem to be lost with some children today.
We loved this book. We especially
loved the illustrations. There are few
words in this creative book, but each page speaks volumes and reminds us what
is really important in life. Pre-K. EL (K-3).
ESSENTIAL. Reviewer: SL.
