When the new
boy at school, Milo, starts a Meteorology club, Fiona is very upset. After all her dad is
the town weatherman and she often appears on TV to give the weather report. So
Fiona starts her own club, and after a few false starts, she ends up teaming up
with Milo to break up his older brother and his girlfriend.
I thought the
quirkiness in this book was a bit confusing instead of cute. I think students
will be horrified to hear about the dating life of Fiona’s elderly babysitter,
and not quite understand the teen dating portion of the story. The part
that worries me the most is that if Fiona believes that if she pulls out a single hair, her teacher
won’t call on her..but if she accidentally pulls out more, she will get called
on. Does that sound healthy to you? I am not going to introduce the OCD concept
of Magical Thinking to young students through this book.
