Sadler, Judy Ann. Mitchell, Susan. Reaching, 32 pgs. Kids Can Press, 2011. $16.95. Inside cover: “Over the course of a sunny afternoon, a baby and his loving family laugh, play and celebrate being together. Mama, Daddy and Big Sister provide a happy cuddle, Grandma likes to dance and Grandpa is always ready to play “horsey.” When Baby holds Auntie’s helping hand, he is ready to stand on his own sturdy feet and explore the world around him. But at bedtime, Baby is once again safely where he belongs, in the loving arms of his parents, who know that only too soon he will be reaching beyond them for the moon and stars.” This is a great family oriented book that will be loved by many. It would be the perfect book as a gift for a family with a newborn. I don’t see much application to the classroom. It could possibly be a unit on families. The illustrations are beautiful. The rhyming is perfect. Pre-K. EL (K-3). OPTIONAL. Reviewer: SL.
