Dunklee, Annika. Forsythe, Matthew. My Name Is Elizabeth, 24 pgs. Kids Can Press, Ltd, 2011. $14.95.
Inside cover: “Elizabeth really likes her name. She likes that it’s nine letters long. She likes the neat things her mouth does when she says it. She likes that a queen- a queen!- was named after her. But she does NOT like it when people call her by nicknames. Lizzy? Beth? Liz? Betsy? None of these names will do. So one day our heroine puts her small foot down and firmly but politely demands a little respect, spelled E-L-I-Z-A-B-E-T-H, and thank you very much! But will anyone listen? And are there any exceptions to Elizabeth’s rule?”
We loved, loved, loved this book! I don’t know if it was the honesty and personality of Elizabeth, or the incredible illustrations! Perhaps it was the touching and surprising ending? Either way, we recommend it to everyone! It could be used in a unit on names, personalities, manners, and feelings.
