11yo Winnie Zeng is excited to start middle school, she hoping for the best, but unfortunately, she doesn't connect with the popular kids, and David Zuo - her arch rival is also starting 6th grade at Groton Middle. Determined to beat his homeroom at a bake sale, Winnie finds her grandmother's moon cake recipe and inadvertently conjures a spirit ready to teach Winnie how to be a powerful Shaman - and she needs to learn quickly because demons are causing trouble.

Absolutely action-packed, with a good amount of magical moon cakes, the spine is already imprinted with a book 1 symbol, so I look forward to a sequel. I loved the teamwork/rivalry between Winnie and David. Although not a Rick Riordan Presents title, the readers of those will certainly love this series as well. Winnie and David are Chinese
