Emmeline has been raised to be prepared, cautious, brave,
resourceful, and fiercely independent.
When her scientist parents are kidnapped, these skills are put to good
use. With the help of a street boy named
Thing, she follows her last instruction, but gets kidnapped by a dastardly man,
Dr. Bauer, who knows of a magical creature in the far north that he believes
holds the key to eternal life. It will
be a desperate race between all the interested parties to either save the world
or end it.
A mix of magic and science and adventure. Reminds me a bit of Philip Pullman. The adventure is quite fun once the battle
gets going, but it doesn’t quite ignite the spark of essential-ness.
