Rosenstock, Barb Vincent Can’t Sleep: Van Gogh Paints the
Night Sky. PICTURE BOOK. Illustrated by Mary Grandpre. Knopf (Random House), 2017. $18.
Vincent cannot sleep, so instead he wanders the steets of
his sleepy little Dutch village and immerses himself in the wonders of the
world at night.
Rosenstock has written a beautiful story of inspiration and
creativity and Grandpre has populated it with luminous illustrations in homage
to Van Gogh’s own works. A perfect
little lesson about an artist, about reveling in nature, of inspiration. What a grand book to share with a class at
any level.
