DiCamillo, Kate La La
La Illustrated by Jaime Kim PICTURE
BOOK Candlewick Press, 2017. $17.99
Content: G.
A little girl sings
out “La La La” and waits for someone to answer.
When no one answers she keeps trying and she wanders around in nature
hoping that someone will respond. She
gets tired and falls asleep for a nap, and then she is awoken by the sun
singing “La La La” back to her.
This is
mostly a wordless picture book—the only words are “La La La”. The illustrations are beautiful and the
little girl is endearing. There are
notes from the author and illustrator at the ending about putting ourselves out
there and trying to find a friend. Once
I read their notes and had a better understanding of the message I loved the book,
until that point though I was confused.
