Townley, Roderick A Bitter Magic, 293 pages. Knopf (Random), 2015 pages. Content: G.
Cisley’s mother disappeared from the stage at a magic
show. Now Cisley lives in a remote,
creepy castle with her aloof uncle. When
she meets Cole, a local boy, she finds someone who believes her when she looks
throughout the odd castle in order to find clues to her mother’s disappearance. Did I mention that Cisley has a pet lobster
that she takes for walks on the beach?
Townley’s novels take a very particular type of reader to
enjoy them. If you have a large, voracious set of readers, there may be someone in your clientele who will enjoy this.
