Collingridge, Richard. Lionheart, PICTURE BOOK. Scholastic Inc., 2016. $17.99. Richard can hear something scary coming. So he runs to the jungle with his stuffed animal, Lionheart. Richard sees many amazing creatures in the jungle but he can still hear something scary coming so he keeps running. Lionheart turns into a real lion and shows Richard how to play and ignore the scary thing and when he just can’t ignore it anymore, Lionheart shows him how to “roar!” For the age level that was intended, I thought this was a fairly abstract book. The reader doesn’t know until the very end that Richard is playing make believe with his toys and not actually running away from something frightening. It would take a lot of explanation from an adult about how this book is meant to be about coping with your fears. The artwork is really beautiful and interesting to look at. It is definitely the most appealing part of the book. PRE-K, K-3- OPTIONAL. Reviewed by Shay, High School Librarian.
