Frith, Nicholas John. Hector and Hummingbird, PICTURE BOOK. Arthur A. Levine Books, 2015. $16.99. Hector is a bear who lives in the mountains with his best friend hummingbird. Hummingbird has been copying Hector whenever he does anything. He also talks to Hector constantly, even when Hector just needs a rest. This all becomes too much and Hector explodes. He tells Hummingbird to leave him alone and goes for a walk. The thing that Hector doesn’t expect is that he really starts to miss Hummingbird. Luckily, Hummingbird isn’t far behind. I didn’t like how this story wrapped up. I think we all get a little frustrated with people sometimes, even our best friends, but I didn’t think Hector handled his behavior very well and there wasn’t a good enough explanation about how to treat others even if we need some space from them. The pictures could have been a little better, but they were so similar with much of the same colors throughout, they weren’t as interesting to look at. PRE-K, K-3- OPTIONAL.
