Bildner, Phil Marvelous Cornelius: Hurricane Katrina and the
Spirit of New Orleans, illustrated by John Parra. Chronicle, 2015. $17.
Marvelous Cornelius spends his days on the streets of New
Orleans gathering in the day’s trash and keeping the streets clean. When Hurricane Katrina arrives, he shakes his
head in despair over the amount of trash left behind, but he rolls up his
sleeves and gets to work and along with many, many helpers he cleans up the
town.
Inspired by an actual New Orleans sanitation worker, Bildner
celebrates the joy, the sadness and the rebuilding of the city of New Orleans
after Katrina almost laid it to waste.
