In this second book in a series, Nick, Carter, and Angelo know
now that some things are real that they thought were make believe. They even
started a monster journal. Since Nick was a zombie for a time, and even though he is
human again, he can still talk to ghosts. When bodies go missing from the local cemetery,
Nick and his friends want to use his ability to help (and film their movie project). But this pesky group of
girls from their school; Angie, Tiffany, and Dana are always getting in their way.
When they explore a lead together, a classmate goes missing, and they discover
a giant sized football player with a very simple sweet mind. Now the six of
them are in a bind, and must help their classmate, even if he was a bully,
before its too late.
This was a very fun read, full of interesting information, and
enjoyable characters. The plot would be very interesting to students, with its
references to mythical creatures, legends, and monsters of every kind. I wish
there was more to this book, like more little subplots to fill things out. I
would like to know the characters and world a bit better. For example, Carter
is known for eating all the time. I think 5-6 graders readers are ready for a
bit more character development than that. That being said, I really liked
reading this book, and was lucky to have the next one in the series ready to
read since I couldn't put this one down! Can function as a read alone.
