Berry, Julie The Scandalous Sisterhood of Prickwillow Place, 345 pgs. Roaring Brook Press, 2014. $15.99. Language: G; Violence: PG; Mature Content: PG.
When the Headmistress and her brother at St. Ethelreda’s School for Young Ladies drop dead over Sunday Dinner, the 7 students in residence hide the bodies (to avoid the school closing and getting sent home) and try to solve the mystery of the double murder themselves, before the killer strikes again. But how long can they maintain the charade that all is well, especially when the person they hope to see least shows up at the school?
This is a wonderful, old-fashioned mystery, with lots of suspects, hilarious situations, and Victorian manners. I enjoyed solving the mystery as this author did not hold back clues or introduce surprise characters at the last minute. Although it contains murder and burglary the violence is off page and treated very Victorian. Nothing to shock the reader. I hope to see these girls again in future novels. What a treat!
