Bently, Peter Meet the Parents. PICTURE BOOK.
Illustrated by Sara Ogilvie. Simon & Schuster/ Paula Wiseman Books, 2014. $17.99.
“Sometimes you think that your mom and your dad are there just to nag you and boss you like mad: Brush your teeth! Tidy Up! Eat your peas!” The list goes on and on. But Peter Bently has written a fantastic picture book that effectively and creatively explores all of the OTHER things parents are good for: “Parents are sofas for putting your feet up, and Dumpsters for bits that you don’t want to eat up.”
This is a wonderfully illustrated rhyming book that explores all the amazing and exhausting things parents do for their children. I can’t help but think it would be a great book to give a difficult teenager to remind them how fantastic their parents were and still are! The story is heartwarming and fun. The illustrations are detailed and exciting. We loved the contrast between colorful pages and sketches on a white background. We LOVED this book!
