Missy is a bright fun hyper girl who is so so excited to go on a field to trip to her state’s capitol building. She can’t wait to visit the gift shop. Her assigned buddy Oscar is excited to but in a different way, he wants to meet the governor and see the place where bills are made into laws. When they arrive, they see tons of interesting things, but are both disappointed to find out that not only isn’t there a gift shop but they aren’t going to meet the governor. Missy decides to take matters into her own hands and drags Oscar along for the ride.
Though this is book#4 in the series, it easily functions as a read-alone. What a fun book, I am going to buy the whole series for my school library based just on this read. It includes a memorable main character, an interesting plot that includes some learning elements, and excellent color illustrations on every page. Perfect for 1-2 graders, it’s a great crossover from early readers into easy chapter books, and does a great job keeping the vocabulary at this level.
