Josh and Maggie are
siblings who have an alien device that enables them to visit worlds that have
been created by authors. They have had some harrowing adventures yet are so
tempted by their favorite author world, that they peruse him back to his hotel
after his author visit at their school, and talk him into using the device. Now
all them are in Wyrd world, and not the best parts of town. Quickly they find themselves in even greater
danger than they have known including losing the alien crown, which is
necessary to get back home. I thought this story was pretty confusing. For one, I haven’t read the first two books, so this book can’t function as a read-alone. However, its also confusing because the children visit a fictional authors book, which they have read, but the reader hasn’t, so I sort of felt like I was completely the odd duck out. I did laugh out loud during one portion, so I will give it that. Also its very short and has a cover that would appeal to 2-3 graders, but the text and complex plot elements is more for 4-5, so it might be a challenge to get the book into the right hands.
