Goldie
hosts a cholent dinner for all of every
neighbors, every single Shabbat. They love her warm soup and the company. One
day there is no great smell wafting down the halls of their apartment building,
and everyone starts to worry. Turns out that Goldie has been sick and not able
to start her famous soup. What will the neighbors do without their meal on
Shabbat? The illustrations are large but are fairly subdued with lots of blues, like a rainy day. Although this book focuses on a religious observation of Shabbat, the meal is shared by neighbors from all different backgrounds. There is a lesson here about community that I really like.
