Thirst for Home: A Story of Water across the World PICTURE BOOK.
Walker Childrens, 2014. $17.99 Content: G
Alemitu lives in an Ethiopia village with her family. There isn’t
much food and she must walk each day with her mother to get water, a trip that
last hours. When Alemitu’s mother gives her up for adoption, an family in
America adopts her. As she gets used to her new home and family, she can’t help
but remember her mother after it rains.
This is a wonderfully illustrated story about adoption. Its so
heartbreaking to think that the little girls mother, loved her so much but had to give her up for adoption I know there is a water component that
threads through the story, and is part of the title, but it really isn’t the
central theme, so it couldn’t pair with a lesson on say, the book ‘A long walk to
water’. I am not quite sure how this would fit into my school library, so I am
marking it as Optional.
