At her mother’s
insistence, Larissa and her family have moved back to her mother’s home town
and opened an antique business, but nothing has gone right for Larissa at all.
One of her first days, the kids involved her in a common, dangerous prank
and Larissa almost drowned. She was left with horrible scar on her face
that never seems to get better. And the doll that used to belong to her
mother’s dead sister seems creepier than ever. The night that Larissa
receives a phone call on a phone that isn’t even plugged in seems to be the
last straw. “Follow the fireflies.” What does that mean? It means
that Larissa is the only one who can right a generations old wrong - a wrong
that has been cursing Larissa’s family. If she is going to break the
curse, she will have to be brave and strong and also forgiving.
Little’s
mystery reminds me of Mary Downing Hahn’s novels - good mysteries for a middle
reader.
