Celebrating Massachusetts: 50 States to Celebrate by Marion Bauer – ADVISABLE

Bauer, Marion and Illustrated by Celebrating Massachusetts: 50 States to Celebrate EARLY READER. HMH Books for Young Readers, 2014. $5.99 Content: G
Mr. Geo, a geography teacher, takes young readers through both modern and historical Massachusetts. He visits monuments, celebrations, sporting events, and historical events. Featuring bright colorful illustrations.
Overall this is a fantastic book! The illustrations are almost better than photographs and the book manages to be stuffed with information while still feeling like a fun adventure. I would buy the Utah version in a second, if it was written yet, which it doesn’t appear to be. Mostly 5th graders use my state informational books, but it doesn’t hurt to have a few around for interested younger readers that have easier vocabulary. My only complaint is that Mr. Geo is kind of a creeper, I am not digging on the whole mustache trend thing. I think students would relate better to another child providing the tour or a less creepy adult. Many early readers don’t have “geography” teachers and might find that confusing.
