When Nora is 12 her dad leaves her family in Mexico to go find a job. When Nora's dad leaves he makes her a promise that he will be home in time for her Quencenaria on her fifteenth birthday. When suddenly the letters and money stop coming Nora starts to worry and decides that she is going to travel to America to find him . After Nora has crossed the border and ends up in Houston she begins learning how to live on her own.
I actually enjoyed reading this book although it was difficult to understand in some places because there were a lot of words in Spanish.
