Bobby vs. Girls (Accidentally) by Lisa Yee
Yee, Lisa, Bobby vs. Girls (Accidentally). Arthur. A Levine Books, 2009. Pgs. 176. Language: G, Violence: G, Sexual Content: G
When Bobby enters 4th grade, he realizes that it’s becoming increasingly important to keep his friendship with Holly secret. The two friends start to drift apart even farther, however, when Holly lets slip that she’s seen Bobby wearing curlers, Bobby spills paint all over Holly (accidentally, of course), and Holly finds out about Bobby’s picture of Holly with horns and a tail. With an already widening gap in their relationship, their friendship becomes tested when both Bobby and Holly run for student council rep at their school. Now the school’s broken out in an all-out boys vs. girls war and the two friends are stuck in the middle of it. Will Bobby and Holly remain friends in the end? Who will win the boys vs. girls war?
A funny, school story for any fans of boys vs. girls novels. The characters are well-developed. The plot is well-developed and the story is amusing. Readers who like realistic fiction, school and friendship stories, and humorous fiction will enjoy reading this book. EL (K-3). ADVISABLE. Reviewer: Kira M, Youth Services Librarian, WHI Public Library.
