Stine, R.L. Goosebumps Wanted: The Haunted Mask 240 pgs. Scholastic
Paperbacks, Ltd, 2012 (July). $11.38. (Rating:
PG)
Lu-Ann loves scary stuff,
and terrorizes her little brother with spooky bedtime stories and jokes. When
she goes to a boring Halloween party Lu-Ann and her friends end up exploring
the attic. There she tries on a monster mask, and to her horror –it won’t come
off, and it fills her with rage…In the meantime her good
friend Devin is putting in hours at his families new pumpkin farm. After creepy
things start to happen, he hears a rumor that the pumpkin field used to be an
old cemetery. Can the two friends help one another before it’s too late?
I think this is a reprint
of an older Goosebumps story, with a more modern cover. Its pretty standard
fare for Goosebumps, nothing too much for elementary students, but nothing
spectacular either. My favorite part about these cheesy scary stories, is that
they are really good examples of cliffhangers for a class lesson.
