Marcus Cornelius Primus’ family are farmers. His father,
a retired centurion, has trained him in the art of combat. When some guys come
wanting payment for a loan his father took out, his father is unable to pay and
is killed. In turn, Marcus and his mother are forced into slavery. As he tries
to escape, he discovers a dangerous secret that could undo the whole empire. He soon, however, winds up being sold into the
life of a Gladiator. Their motto: Fight or Die. Will he escape and save his
mother? What will he do with his dangerous knowledge?
A great mystery for adventure fans. The plot and the
characters are fairly well-developed. The story is intense and does a good job
of holding reader’s interest. Readers who like historical fiction, adventure,
mystery, and Ancient Rome will enjoy reading this book. EL (4-6), MS.
