Lang, Heather Swimming with Sharks: the daring discoveries
of Eugenie Clark, pictures by Jordi Solano.
PICTURE BOOK BIOGRAPHY. Albert
Whitman, 2016. $17.
Genie Clark was always fascinated by sharks. In the 1930’s when she was a child, women
really didn’t become scientists, but she persevered and put herself onto a path
where she was able to study the creatures that the world knew such little
about, making sharks her life’s work.
I love that each year there are more books being written
about female role models. Very little
has been written about Ms. Clark, but this biography fits right in with STEM
and MESA in elementary and middle schools.
