Skylar longs to get out of Creek
View, move out of her family’s mobile home, go to art school in San Francisco.
When her mother loses her job at Taco Bell, she starts to feel like her dreams
are slipping away. Working at a quirky motel, she attempts to escape her
reality through paper collages. She soon meets Josh, her fellow co-worker and
ex-marine who lost his leg after stepping on an IED in Afghanistan. Still
coping with being disabled, Josh resorts to whiskey and random hookups. As the
two get to know each other, Skylar finds her perspective changing and her attraction
to Josh growing. Will Skylar choose to stay in the small town? Will Josh and
Skylar help each other to heal and find love?
Accurate in description and
detail, this book pulls the reader into Josh and Skylar’s world with believable
plots, well-developed characters, and thought-provoking approaches to issues.
There are a lot of swears, but they work well with the book. There is alcohol,
drugs, and sexual content, so this book is best suited for high school and
higher.
