Arena, Jen Lady Liberty’s Holiday, illustrated by Matt Hunt.
PICTURE BOOK. Alfred A. Knopf, 2016. $17.99. Content: G
After more than 100 years of standing in New York Harbor,
the State of Liberty sneaks away to see more of the United States. Her
wanderings take her to the Rocky Mountains, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Jersey
Shore and more. But when her absence leads New York City’s mayor to consider
canceling the Fourth of July celebrations, she races back to take her place and
guarantee America’s birthday goes forward.
I absolutely adored this book from
beginning to end. The tour of America’s famous sights is fun, and Lady
Liberty’s reactions to them are equally delightful. This book would be fun for
the 4th of July, a US geography lesson, or really any time. There is
a history of the Statue of Liberty at the back of the book.
