Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Saenz - ADVISABLE

Saenz, Benjamin Alire Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, 359 pgs. Simon and Schuster, 2012. $16.99 Language: PG13 (60+swears 7 “f”); Mature Content: PG13; Violence PG.

It’s 1987, the summer before his Sophomore year and things are starting to change.  Aristotle meets Dante at the swimming pool and learns how to swim; Dante is Aristotle’s first real friend. Over the next two years, Ari discovers many things about Dante, himself, his parents, his brother who is in prison and what he wants his life to be.

This Stonewall winner is a coming of age novel, well written but full of issues including teen drug use and homosexuality.   While not explicit, the amount of swearing and the subject matter would fit best in a High School or Public library.
