Three Pennies by Melanie Crowder - ADVISABLE

Crowder, Melanie  Three Pennies, 181 pages. Atheneum (Simon and Schuster), 2017. $17. Content: Language: G; Violence: G; Mature Content: PG (abandonment).

Eleven year old Marin floats from foster home to foster home, but she is certain that one day her mom will come back.  When Marin has the opportunity to be adopted, she is panicked that she needs to find her mom.  Marin uses clues to try and find her mother, but while she is doing that she is starting to love Lucy who wants to adopt her.

This simple and heartwarming story was an enjoyable read.  I liked the way the plot moved along quickly and although Marin had hardships, she still had hope and could trust people.  My only complaint about this book is the cover-it doesn’t match the story and makes it look like it’s going to be fantasy, but it is realistic fiction.
