Carr, Matt Superbat. PICTURE BOOK. Scholastic,
2017. $16.99.
Pat the bat is bored. He wants to do something exciting and special. Like a superhero! He sews himself a suit and when all his bat friends see it, the tease him because all of the super powers he says he has (echolocation, flying, super hearing) are what all of the bats can do. Just as he is about to give up his grand idea, he hears a call for help from across town. He rushes to the scene and finds a cat about to eat a family of mice. Once he scares the cat away he realizes he does have a super power: courage.
This is a really cute idea for a book. I thought there was too much time spent on the things that Pat could do that were the same as everyone else, so the story lagged a little for me, but the final concept of courage being a super hero, was a worthwhile highlight.
