Oliver, Alison Moon. PICTURE BOOK Clarion Books (Houghton
Mifflin), 2018. $18. 9781328781604
Moon is a little girl that is studious and
busy with all of her extra-curricular activities. She wonders what it would be like to not have
to do all of her scheduled activities. One night she walks out to watch a shooting
star. While outside, she follows some paw
prints and finds wolves playing in the forest.
The wolves teach Moon how to be free and wild and she plays with them, but when Moon’s mom calls
for her she goes home and takes all she’s learned about being wild back with
her.
I enjoyed the expressive illustrations, except
I’m not sure why Moon is purple. I liked
the message that sometimes we need to just be free and a little wild, not always
scheduled and with a to-do list. This is
an important message for over scheduled kids (and adults).
