The Little Fire Truck by Margery Cuyler - OPTIONAL

Cuyler, Margery The Little Fire Truck, illustrated by Bob Kolar. PICTURE BOOK. Henry Holt and Company (Macmillan), 2017. $14. 9781627798051

The Little Fire Truck, Engine 45, has an exciting life zipping around town with his driver, Jill. He tells the reader all about the important work firefighters do and emphasizes the many pieces of equipment they use. And he does it all in rhyme.

This picture book is like a large, not-as-sturdy, board book; the text is written in rhyme and has a repeating pattern of starting every page with "I'm a little fire truck." This can get slightly annoying as you read it aloud, but it works for kids. The illustrations are simple and cartoon-y, and will appeal to the youngest readers. I liked the information about firefighters wrapped up in the story and though the rhyming was not always spot on, it was short and quick enough to keep my youngsters interested and enjoying it. This is not a bad pick, especially for kids who already like fire engines or things that go.
