Rockwell, Lizzy A Mammal Is an Animal. PICTURE BOOK/NON-FICTION.
Holiday House, 2018. $18. 9780823436705
As the title says, a mammal is an animal, but not all
animals are mammals. Thus begins a simple exploration into what actually
constitutes a mammal and how they differ from other animals like insects, fish,
birds and so on. The end of the book includes some great charts and facts about
mammals, including details about a few mammals that do not fit the norm.
This is a great nonfiction picture book that clearly
explains animal classifications in a simple way that kids will enjoy. The
illustrations are nothing fancy, but they are nice and really bring the
information to life. I can see this being a great choice for elementary science
units and even general reading for interested young readers.
