Silvey, Anita The Plant Hunters, 74 p. Farrar Straus Giroux, 2012.
$20. Content: G. NON-FICTION.
When you picture a “botanist”, you probably see someone
standing in a meadow sniffing flowers, or gathering leaves, or counting the
blades of grass. You certainly don’t see someone hiding from jungle
people so that they won’t be killed or defying the government of China in order
to find medicine or someone dying a slow, painful death. But those
scenarios were distinct possibilities for early plant hunters. And even
today, there are still dangers, challenges and lonely searching for new plants
all over the world.
Anyone reading this will never look at a botanist in
the same way again. Excellent information and very usefull for a strong
science curriculum.
