Côté, Geneviève Starring Me and You. PICTURE BOOK. Kids Can Press, 2014. $16.95. Content: G.
When Pig and Bunny put on a play together, they discover that their personalities are very different. For example, Bunny hides when shy, and Pig fakes a smile. Bunny freezes when scared, and Pig screams. Their differences lead to a huge fight, but even very dissimilar friends can find some common ground if they're determined.
This energetic story about friendship demonstrates that two people don't have to be exactly alike to be friends -- and that, in fact, differences can add some interest to a relationship. Pig and Bunny's reactions to feelings such as eagerness and anger also set the stage for discussions about effective ways to handle emotion. The illustrations are cute and colorful, and have a fun, childlike quality that complements the text.
