Bennardo, Charlotte and Natalie Zaman Blonde Ops, 288 pgs. St. Martin's Griffin, 2014. $17.99. Violence: PG-13; Sexual Content: PG-13; Language: PG (12 swears; no 'f').
When Bec is thrown out of a private boarding school for hacking into their system and doctoring her grades, she's sent to Rome to intern for a fashion magazine. But all is not as it seems at Edge Magazine. Almost as soon as Bec arrives, the editor-in-chief is in a suspicious car accident and winds up in the hospital. The woman who replaces her is definitely keeping secrets, as are more than a few others at Edge. Things ramp up even more when the First Lady comes to Rome for a photo shoot. All the security in the world may not be able to protect the fashionable, friendly First Lady. But maybe, if she's lucky, Bec can.
Those in the mood for a literary -- or at all believable -- book with thoroughly-developed characters may want to skip this one. But for those who want a fast-paced action novel with a bit of fashion advice and romance thrown in, as well as a few interesting twists, Blonde Ops may be a good choice. At the very least, it's a fun one.
