Maihack, Mike Cleopatra in Space (Book#1 Target Practice) 176 pgs. GRAPHIX, 2014. $12.99 Content: Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: G Violence: G. GRAPHIC NOVEL
15 year old Cleopatra doesn’t much care for school, especially algebra, but she does love getting into mischief and is very good with a slingshot. When she stumbles upon a strange doorway, she suddenly finds herself in the future, a future that has seen tragedy and is still very much in danger. Its up to her to help, but they sort of expected Cleopatra the great queen and ruler, not a pre-teen. So she is sent to school, including algebra. She quickly excels are target practice and combat though, so Cleo is sent on her first mission. Will she succeed?
This was a fun and fast paced graphic novel that middle school students would enjoy. I think the character is relatable and the plotline was fun and interesting. The artwork is shows an eye for character expression, layout, and variety.
